Peter's Warehouse Walk
April 3, 2026
Even after 9 years at PCF, there is always something cool or unusual to see in our warehouse. This photo has both cool and unusual all rolled into one. On the left are the Organic Red Spring Onions (26709-12 ct) and on the right are Cincinnati Red Radishes (33875-24 ct). Cool thing about the radishes is the tops start off with a citrus note much like Sorrel (21189-1 lb). Why not combine the two into a dish- Grilled Spring Onions and Cincinnati Radishes? Best to keep it simple for this time of year. Clean the radishes, leaving the tops on and toss with EVOO, Sea Salt and Pepper. Set aside. Do the same for the Red Spring Onions. Throw on the hot grill until they heat thru and get a nice grill mark. When done, arrange on the plate. Might as well add a grilled piece of Halibut – I hear that the season opened finally. Only else would be a nice lemony butter sauce to give it some richness. Grilled Radishes, you say? Yes radishes are excellent roasted, grilled, or sautéed.
Time to change out salads? These cute little lettuces are something to check out, and they have the best name- Red Baby Butter Cakes (32550-12ct). They are about 8 inches across but only about 2 inches tall. They live up to their name as they have a tender buttery flavor. Tarragon, Sherry Vinegar, Goat Cheese smear on the plate, grilled crouton, driz of EVOO…. Roasted Red Pepper cause, Why Not? If I keep this up we are going to have a beautiful salad.
Yea! Sweet Bi-Color Corn on the Cob (27002-48ct) ! This is coming out of the California Desert- Coachella specifically. Stuff looks like Candy! as we like to say. The leaves are bright green, the kernels are plump, and shiny. That was our trick to finding great corn growing up in Illinois. Pull back the husks and check out the kernels. That is how you get the good ears. Then it would be a race against the clock to get the corn in the pot of boiling water. Nothing better on a hot summer day or in this case a warm Easter Weekend.
Strange place to get an ear worm but in room 1 these Baby Leeks (28001-12 ct) got me started on “Baby Shark” just got to change shark to Leek! So tender you can treat like asparagus or even pair with asparagus. These were grown by Babé Farms out of Santa Maria Ca. They have "grown-up" from their start in the 1980’s, growing and harvesting over seventy different varieties of gourmet vegetables, including a colorful spectrum of baby carrots, specialty radishes, baby beets, baby lettuces, specialty greens, organic kales and spring mix, just to name a few.
